ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING.

"Sawtooth Mountains," oil on 8" x 6" wood panel mounted on 1" wood frame, original painting

West Texas. These are the Sawtooth Mountains, the jagged, jutting rocks that rise to an elevation of 7,686 feet and are apart of the Davis Mountains in the Chihuahuan Desert.

I spend a lot of time exploring the high desert region of West Texas, near Marfa and Fort Davis and all over the Davis Mountains. Don't you just love the jagged tooth this part of the Davis Mountains makes against the sky? If you've every driven these highways in this part of Texas, you know how gorgeous that clouds and sky can stretch forever, and it seems the roads have no end. It makes me think of the Tolkien quote: "Not all those who wander are lost."

►WHO I AM◄

I’m Courtney! Born and raised in Austin, Texas, I have spent my life wandering through the woods of the Texas Hill Country, tubing it’s rivers, boot scoot’n in its dance halls and exploring this great state with so much diverse beauty. I travel out to the high deserts of West Texas as often as I can to see the night skies in the darkest place in North America and soak up the big skies and desert landscape.

I started oil painting when I was 9 and haven’t stopped. I love to paint places I feel connected to and hope these paintings act as windows for others to feel connected to them too. Nostalgia and mystery are common themes in my work, and “Sehnsucht,” a German word that resonates with me and means an intense yearning we feel especially for the unfinished parts of our life. Often when I paint night lights, or blue flowers, these are all symbols for this word “Sehnsucht.”

Thank you for collecting my work as I explore mystery, nature and human connection through my paintings, mostly in Texas with occasional ramblings to Colorado and New Mexico. Please message me , and introduce yourself! I’d love to learn something about you✨
